Coming to a Close

As we wind down another year, I am a little saddened to see it end on another tragic story (the 8 dead snowmobilers from Sparwood). I'm sure it's not the only major (good or bad) event happening these last few days but of course, the media does not want to report anything uplifting and happy. I find that sad.
It has been an interesting year (but really, aren't they all?). Started 2008 standing in line at Wal-Mart in Kelowna discovering (from a magazine cover) that Heath Ledger had died. Don't know why but I was a little devestated by this. Funny how a person can care about the death of someone that they don't even know. Anyhow here are some more things that stick out in my mind about this year:
-the massive earthquake that hit China and the following aftermath of death and destruction
-how China pulled off a very impressive Olympics months after
-the first black president (and by a landslide)
-our (Canada's) political fiasco
-the global financial meltdown
-Rosie's first day of preschool
-Paul kicking ass at work and getting promoted to senior assistant manager
-the uncertainty in Louisiana during hurricane Gustav (I think it was that hurricane)

There are so many events that are noteworthy but those are the few that really stick out in my mind. I hope 2009 brings a whole lot of change (for the positive). Happy New Years everyone.

My Take on This Latest Political Crises

First off I was all for a coalition BEFORE the election, ideally without the QB, who don't seem to fit into any political views of the other parties. Many other Canadians expressed the same opinion, if only for the sole reason of getting rid of Harper and the Conservatives from power. That being said, NOT all Canadians who voted Liberal, NDP or BQ had the same view. So this is my first point: it is very undemocratic of these leaders to do this AFTER the election is over. Who is to say that if they had done this before the election that enough Canadadians supporting one of these 3 parties would have opted instead for a stable one party gov't (conservatives), thereby giving Harper the majority (he was awefully close this time around). Second point, given the way they brought this about, trying to just overthrow the current PM without the voice of the people makes me lose all respect for them. It makes me wonder just how well said coalition would actually work. Would things be all fine and dandy until one party decided that it did not want to vote in favour of one issue or another along with the other two parties? I can see utter chaos in the future, with nothing getting done, as usual.
*side note* Just saw on the news that Harper has suspending Parliament...interesting.
Ok back to my views. How dare you fellows say that I and millions of Canadians do not get a voice in this. Screw you, this isn't a communist country (yet, getting close with these antics). However before we go back to the polls let's set out some new rules.
1.)Fine anyone who is eligible to vote and doesn't. This would not be hard to implement...hell I would volunteer to help start this. They could do this through our taxes and social insurance numbers. Screw this whole "right" to vote crap. Who are the first people to complain about newly elected governments...NON-VOTERS, that's who.
2)Eliminate all but 2-3 parties. Why the hell do the votes need to be split 5 different ways (and those are just the "major" parties, the ones who get press and whatnot)! No freakin wonder we get one minority gov't after another.
3)I am ALL for eliminating all this crazy free for all spending for campaigns. Give me a break here, most of us regular joes are busting our humps just to make ends meet and you guys are out there spending money like it's going out of style! You want to run, you find a way to pay for it yourself. Most of these leaders have successful businesses of their own and have more money than most Canadians.

I am losing all hope for the future of Canada, drunk, retarded monkees could do a better job than these spoiled brats in parliament. Honestly, I do not like most of the Conservative platform but Harper is the ONLY one in this stupidity who has not lost any respect from me...in fact I hate to say it, if it goes to an election he is getting my vote. And I hope he wins a majority and we're stuck with him for a full term. Maybe then we'll see some big changes within the Liberals and NDP (namely their leaders, let's get some intelligent leaders for these opposition parties, not spoiled children). Shame on all of you for making our beautiful country look so stupid.

Are You Freakin Kidding Me?

Watching the news tonight and the top story was that it may possible that a non confidence vote may be in the works for the current government. Excuse me? Are you idiots in Ottawa trying to tell me another election may be lurking around the corner? Why the hell didn't you morons (yeah you Liberals, NDP and even Green party) just form a coalition in October to get rid of this stupid Conservative gov't. Now I'm not saying I want that twit Harper in at all, far from it, but honestly how much money needs to be wasted on these more and more frequent elections before we have a stable, working government? A bunch of retarded monkeys could do better than these politicians! Our country and the citizens of it are the ones that suffer, we are making ourselves look weak as a country. Not good with all the terrorism and financial upheaval going on. We need an Obama up here to get rid of all these other morons, I would vote for someone like that no matter what party they were with!

And furthermore....

As an addition to my last post here is a very well thought out list of why people should stop sticking their noses into other people's love and married lives:

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control are not natural.
2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people cannot get legally married because the world needs more children.
3. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children because straight parents only raise straight children.
4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful, since Britney Spears’s 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.
5. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and it hasn’t changed at all: women are property, Blacks can’t marry Whites, and divorce is illegal.
6. Gay marriage should be decided by the people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of minorities.
7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are always imposed on the entire country. That’s why we only have one religion in America.
8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people makes you tall.
9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage license.
10. Children can never succeed without both male and female role models at home. That’s why single parents are forbidden to raise children.
11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven’t adapted to cars or longer lifespans.
12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a “separate but equal” institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages will for gays & lesbians.

Seriously folks, time to step out of your traditional thoughts on marriage. It's called evolving as humans. Start worrying about the bigger things like, oh I don't know, maybe whether we'll even have a planet to inhabit in a generation if we don't change our Earth killing ways. Just saying.

Proposition Hate (Oops 8)

I am so incredibly disappointed in humanity right now that I have to post this. I am not gay but I will defend to my death your right to be, to love who you choose. In this day and age where people are gunning each other down in the streets, spousal and child abuse, bullying at school and over the internet why is it so bad that 2 people would love each other enough to want to spend their lives together? I have no hatred for those of you who choose to be a part of organized religion (I don't use the word Christian here as my personal belief is that Christ taught tolerance of ALL things/people). I do believe in one God. If you feel that homosexuals are breaking the laws of God that's fine, you are entitled to your opinion, but honestly are they hurting you in any way, shape or form by being married? NO! If God is angry, well, let him deal with it in the after life. Me, I think he'd rather see 2 people love each other unconditionally than for people to spread hate around like candy. Besides which, when did it become policy to combine church and state (aren't these supposed to be two seperate entities)? Are the gov't officials that pass laws in California being paid by extremist religious groups? Get a backbone Arnold! Don't pass a law stating that gay marriages are ok, then change your mind when you see all the hateful extremists out there dropping their support. You are the cruelest of them all and the most cowardly.
This is going to bring some hateful responses I expect. That's just fine, if anyone out there feels the need to attack me as a person I will publish your comments (for all to see your ignorance and hate, have fun looking like a fool). This is my blog, I make NO apologies for my personal beliefs. I feel sad for all the racist, hateful people out there. Never close yourself off from potential friendships because someone is different. Life is full of learning potentials, you never know if 1 person will have a life lesson to teach you. Love to everyone out there in computerland! And a special thanks to Keith Olbermann for this eloquant speech.

History Made!!!!

I am so very happy that I am around to watch this historic event. I'm a little speechless right now but can say that I look forward to see how this man changes things for our neighbors, which will in turn make change here in our country. Way to go President Obama!!

Halloween Fun

Here are a bunch of pics from our funtastic halloween. I took the kids over to their cousin's for trick or treating and then we all slept over. Poor Ryan is a bit sick right now so he crashed out in his stroller about 1/2 hour into our jaunt. Necy got some VERY interesting pics (the black and whites) with her camera. We have no idea where the weird lighting came from in the pic of her and Rosie...spirits, maybe?
Fun was had by all, Rosie really got into it,even Ryan figured out this trick or treating business after a few houses. He even learned some very important words, "Trick or Treat", much to our delight. And the kids were so polite, saying thank you at all the houses we hit. Rosie and Matthew are such good little buds now, which is so cool. I have a ton of cousins that I don't even know so I love that Rosie and Ryan can grow up close to theirs. Oh and we saw the coolest costume on our way back to Necy's...someone had made a giant Ipod costume!

Spreading the Happiness

Ok, so both my sis in laws have posted this vid on their blogs. I LOVE IT! It, quite simply put, just makes me happy. I dare you to try and watch it without smiling:) Thank you to the discovery channel for this inspiring commercial!

Make Face Time

I absolutely LOVE the new Dentyne Ice commercial. Really puts into perspective how all this technology is really disconnecting everyone. I encourage everyone out there to make more face time with your loved ones. Next time you want to say something to someone, no matter how stupid or trivial it may seem, give that person a call. Don't text or email, talk to them:) And make time for coffee or whatever with friends and family. Gotta go, gonna make face time with the kidlets!

Randomness

Well as Rosie gets close to the end of her second month of preschool, I can see all my worries about this venture were unfounded. She LOVES it and comes home with the best art projects. This gorgeous apple turkey was done the Friday before Thanksgiving. I think it's awesome!

Speaking of Thanksgiving, what do you think of this awesome turkey cake we had for dessert (it was made up of several cupcakes, which gave me some awesome ideas for future birthdays/holidays). Ryan totally knows how to get right in to eat cake...he was an absolute mess afterwards but it was really fun and that's what bathtubs are for, lol.

Supreme Court vs. Laws of Nature

So while wandering the internet looking for instuctions on reconstituting kidney beans for chili, Meio came upon this: "Beans, Beans, the Magical Fruit" is a children's song about the flatulence often experienced after eating beans. The song is noteworthy for correctly identifying the bean as a fruit, not a vegetable. Yet beans, along with many other fruits, are regarded as vegetables due to their common usage as such. The decision to classify certain fruits as vegetables was officially resolved in 1893 when the Supreme Court unanimously decided the tomato was a vegetable, at which time Justice Gray also clarified the status of cucumbers, squash, peas and beans as vegetables. The thing that caught our eye in this little tidbit of info is the fact that the Supreme Court can just defy what science has proven, and just randomly reclassify fruits as vegetables. Um, yeah, that does not actually make these items vegetables people, just because some judge declares it so. And why the hell are tax payer's money going to stupid, pointless use of the Supreme Court. Seriously!

Parenting

Ok, so I don't know if there's a new style of parenting for the new century or whether it's just a big city thing but I call it pussy parenting. What am I talking about? The total lack of response to any bad behaviour a child may exhibit and other general stupid parenting ideas. Some examples (and a lot of these are things that my sis-in-law has seen/been told...I am completely stunned at the stupidity of all these examples):
1) Just got a phone call from sis. A young girl (about 10-11) opened an unpaid for pack of gum at Wal-mart, chewed a piece for a few seconds then spit the gum on the FLOOR, stating that it tasted gross. All of this while her mother just looked on without doing anything. Uh, yeah, my kid would have been stopped at the trying to open the unpaid for gum.
2) Local playground just got a whole bunch of new equipment a few days back. Last night some kid? adult? thought it would be a good idea to poop (yeah that's right I said poop) in one of the new toys there. Hello! Are you that much of a freakin savage? Little kids play there!
3) At same playground today some stupid woman was playing a game of tag? with her two boys, with a twist, they were throwing rocks (fairly big ones) at each other while chasing each other. Yes, the mother too! Hi, way to teach your kids stupid playground games that will eventually hurt someone.
4)My sis was actually told that teaching children manners stifles their creativity. Whoa, since when? She was also told she was a mean mother (by another PARENT!!!) because she makes her kids do homework/chores.

It's no wonder we have a bunch of snot nosed, spoiled, bratty children in this world today. Parents, do your job, and parent. Your kids do NOT rule the roust. So what if your kid doesn't like what to do, they need boundries! Rosie tells me on a regular basis that she doesn't like me (when she's being punished) but I hate to say it, oh well. My job isn't to be her friend, it's to make sure she grows to be a healthy, polite, productive member of society. If you want a friend, buy a dog. If you want kids, be a parent. People today, yeesh!

Way Too Funny

Saw this advertised while perusing craigslist this morning:
Wanted: a conservative platform for the 2008 Federal Election. We weren't able to get it together for the debates. Early voting started yesterday, and we still have no platform. Does anyone have a platform to spare? If so, please contact 1-866-808-8407 or http://www.conservative.ca.
Thought it was extremely funny and just wanted to share. I wish I had thought to do this and would love to meet the person who posted it!

While Cool, NOT the First

The Canucks home page claims Bobby Lou is the first goalie to be named captain. Not true:
William Ronald (Bill) Durnan (born January 22, 1916 in Toronto, Ontario - October 31, 1972) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played for the Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League (NHL). Durnan was an ambidextrous goalie, equally adept at using his right or left hand (he wore special gloves that permitted him to catch with either hand while still holding his stick). Until Roberto Luongo was named captain of the Vancouver Canucks on 30 September, 2008, he was the last goalie to be a captain in the National Hockey League. Including Luongo, he is one of only seven ever.
Not that any of you care but I thought this was interesting (thanks to Brett for that little tidbit of info).

Fun fun fun

Ok, I totally love Rosie's preschool. Got a news letter today and the theme this month (for obvious reasons) is fall. They are doing all sorts of cool stuff this month:
-making an apple turkey (can't wait til that little art project!)
-making applesauce
-there is a black day (where they are encouraged to wear something black) and an orange day (wear orange and bring an orange snack)
-a halloween party (of course!)
Today they went on a leaf finding adventure to make their art project. When I got to the school to pick her up they were outside having a picnic (it's been GORGEOUS here this week). It's good to know that my money is going to a preschool that is way more than just a babysitting service (I know that is not true for all the preschools). Rosie absolutely LOVES it and wakes up every morning and asks, "Is it a school day today?" It will be interesting to see what activities they get to do this year.

Cause for Concern?

Ok, every news channel you turn to here in Canada all have the same top story...the rapid decline of the US economy. I for one do not understand most of what's going on but it's looking really bad. What will this mean for our economy? Is the media blowing all this up way out of proportion like usual? Should what's happening south of the border have any bearing on our upcoming election (as an RRSP owner, we don't want to lose everything we've put in, should it come to that)? And why is it I have more info on the candidates for the US presidency than any of our candidates for PM? I think that last question is a little unsettling. If I haven't already missed it I think I may watch the televised debate to get a feel for our candidates. I know what party I support but does it's leader stand for the right things? With just over 2 1/2 weeks to go til our election, guess I better do my homework.

On a brighter note, I am now a proud owner of a Crackberry Pearl, a phone that I have no idea how to use, lol. Might get to play with it tonight...but probably not. Ryan has been pretty sick all this week and I've been busy cleaning up vomit and comforting him this week. Oh well, I have the new phone...I'll figure it out in due time.

MMMMM...Yummy

Had a hankering for Greek food today, so with the help of my friend Amanda (who sent the recipes) I whipped up Greek salad, Greek style potatoes, rice and Greek chicken. I would say that I did a damn fine job of this as it was my first time making all this (well...I've made rice before). I thouroughly enjoyed my dinner...my 2 picky monkeys, well that's a different story. Anyhow for those interested here are the recipes for the potatoes, salad and chicken

Seasons

While walking Rosie to school this morning, I came upon this. It was so picturesque (in my mind anyway), I whipped out my phone to snap a pic. (Only in this day and age does that make sense...pulling out your phone to take a pic, lol). Anyhow this is the one thing I do like about fall, all the leaves scattered all over the ground.

Today I am about to purchase something that I normally hate wearing, boots. I figure I don't want to freeze my feet off this winter while walking to and from Rosie's school. At least I like these boots.

I have discovered that if you surf the web enough you come across great gems like this...http://www.curlyqcuties.com/
We are going to create one for each of the kids for Christmas this year.

Rosie Art

Today I got a surprise when I picked Rosie up from preschool...my first piece of art done at school. I love it! Rosie seems to be doing a whole lot better than I thought she would (not that I don't think she's big...she's just terribly shy and high strung). I guess being around other kids her age is doing her a world of good.

A New Adventure Begins

Well the big day arrived today, Rosie's first day of preschool. Today was just the orientation, I stayed with her and it was only an hour (regular days will be 2 1/2 hours). She did pretty good today, was a bit shy, but I was super proud of her. Pics show her waiting to leave, outside her school and outside her classroom. And for the record I didn't cry but I was sure nervous as hell this morning. Now the big transition (starting Monday) to being left with strangers without mommy around. I hope she does well.

New Princess Haircut

In preparation for her first day of preschool, Rosie got spoiled at Beaners (kids salon). I love the braids and that she picked a dark colour instead of the usual pink or light purple. It's a beautiful contrast to her light blonde hair. I will post pics of her first day tomorrow night.

Holy Crap!

Ok so it's about 3:30 in the morning, all is quiet (unless you're out partying) and all of a sudden BOOM!!! These are vids of the propane plant explosion near (or in...not sure) Toronto, August 10 at (as I mentioned) 3:30ish in the morning. Wow...that would be scary.

08/08/08 Olympics

First off I offer no apologies to all you "FREE TIBET" people out there so fair warning that you are not going to like what I have to say here.
I will be watching the Olympics this year with my family...and will enjoy what I do catch of it immensely as my 3 1/2 year old watches in wonder asking a million questions about what the atheletes are doing. While I agree that a lot of bad stuff is happening in Tibet, I do not see ANY reason whatsoever not to support our country and all our atheletes who have worked their asses off to get to this point. This a friggin sporting event people, keep politics out of it. All the Chinese people who worked their butts off to put this together, are they personally killing Tibetans. Does anyone in Canada REALLY know what is going on in Tibet or are you getting all info from our biased propoganda news. And furthermore if politics had anything at all to do with the Olympics, no one should be allowed to host it (especially Canada/USA). Oh, you disagree...well try asking the poor regular citizen of Iraq, Afganistan or whatever country the US of A and Canada decide to plunk their army in, their opinion of our politics. I say watch and cheer on our Olympians and leave politics the hell out of it. I for one am not going to teach my children to not like China or any other country. Hate begets hate and on and on it goes. GO CANADA!!!!

Um...Yeah...What the Hell?!

Ok so if this story hasn't already reached you, I'll be very surprised. All I can say is ...WOW! Feeling not so good about traveling anywhere anymore. I tend to agree with the DJ on my fave radio station in Calgary...bring back the death penalty in Canada for freaks like this. Yeah, yeah some of you may have serious opposition to this for various reasons, but seriously for a crime like this where there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever about who did it, well, I just don't think this fruitloop is gonna be rehabilitated. Absolute craziness! Hope my mom makes it here all right (being as how she's traveling by bus).

On another note, I got to play "the closer you get, the slower I drive, so just get off my ass already" game today. I really wanted the guy to follow me into the parking lot so I could inform him that if he had rear ended me and hurt my kids that he would have been sued to the max. Knowing my luck he woulda snapped and killed me though....people are so stupid. And speaking of bad drivers, my God, do people not know the turning radius(es) of their vehicles? Or are they just retarded when trying to get in and out of parking spaces. Uh....people you gotta turn that round thing that sits in front of you (BTW it's called a steering wheel but I don't want to overload your brain by trying to give you too much info all at once). You can't just go in reverse then get a deer in a headlights look when you figure out that you have no room to turn anymore. Sheesh....too many dumb people have driver's licences.

So Ryan has discovered a new use for cherry pie...appearantly it's good for your hair. I think this looks cool, kinda like he received a pretty serious head injury. Man that was fun to get out but it was great for a good laugh.

Upgrading

Well seeing as how Paul has received his awesome new promotion (and subsequent pay raise) I have decided we can start improving our standard of living (ha! I just needed an excuse to go shopping, lol). I bought a lot of stuff this week. Let's see, Ryan got a new "big boy" bed and bedding, Rosie got a loft bed, P and I got new bedding (really stellar bedding that Paul says is just weird) and the bathroom got a new shower curtain. Oh and the kids got some cool toys from Ikea (a dragon for Ryan and a crocodile for miss Rosie). And Rosie got a bunch of new clothes for preschool.

Fishocide

So yesterday our adorable 17 month old son unwittingly destroyed our fairly expensive planted fish tank. Not the tank itself but all the living (or rather now mostly dead) things in it. Meio had a rather complicated CO2 reactor built (actually his entire filtration system is quite weird) to help the plants. Appearantly Ryan got his mitts in there, disassembled part of it, releasing all sorts of not so good for the fishoes/plants stuff into the water. I think we've lost all but 1 of the fish (and some of them were not cheap) and we have yet to see if the plants can be saved. So we chalked it up to a learning experience...just because you think your little kids can't reach something, does not mean they won't think of a creative way to get into what they're not supposed to.

On a happier note, I managed to get Rosie into a preschool for September, yay! She's very excited and I am totally shocked that she is actually old enough to begin such a venture.

Segregation in our Playgrounds

Today Rosie, Ryan and I were actually kicked out of a playground because we are "cultually different" than the children who live in the housing complex that playgroung is situated in. I'm dead serious. Not that it was a prilvate playground for the residents of said housing complex (most of whom, but not all, are African Canadian) but because we are "cultually different". That is honestly what the Paladin security officer told me. I am so livid right now. I phoned and left a (nasty) complaint on Paladin security's answering machine and sent a letter to Global News Calgry telling them of my experience. Since when is it socially acceptable to segregate kids (or anyone else for that matter)? And really, you cannot tell a ctying 3 year old who just wants to have fun with other kids that we have to leave because we are "cultually different". Wow, just another reason to get the hell out of Calgary and move back to the Okanagan.

Happy Birthday!!!!

A very happy 15th birthday to my niece, Tami. Hope you had a spectacular day. Take you shopping if you guys manage to stop by for a visit on your way back west!!!

A Timeless Treasure

Oh my God Rosie and Ryan LOVE the Muppets. We recently acquired the first season as well as a whole CD full of Muppet Songs. Honestly I have never seen them so excited about anything! There is lot's of giggling and dancing whenever I turn on the DVDs/CD.

Here are 2 of my fave pics of the kids that Bananahead took while visiting at Easter. I especially like the one of Rosie, the way the sun is hitting her face. She's gonna be a real beauty. And Ryan is just too cute for his own good.

New Recipe

I am desperately trying to find new and interesting recipes to try. I am tired of making the same old things all the time so I have decided that at least once a week I will try a new recipe. Here is what I made last night (the pic does not do it justice).

Creamed Chicken and Biscuits

Ingredients

1/2 large onion (I obviously substituted this)
1 1/2 tsp butter
4 cups chopped cooked chicken
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup pimiento (I substituted this with calda, Ana and Necy will know what this is)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
6 frozen biscuits, thawed

Directions

1.Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease the bottom and sides of an 11x7 inch baking dish.
2.Chop the onion. Heat butter in a small nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until melted. Stir in onion and saute until tender.
3.Combine onion, chicken, soup, sour cream, milk and pimiento in a medium bowl and
mix well. Spoon mixture into prepared baking dish. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven.
4.Sprinkle baked layer with 3/4 cup of the cheese. Arrange biscuits in a single layer over top. Sprinkle with remaining cheese.
5.Bake until biscuits are golden brown and the sauce is bubbly, about 20 minutes longer. Serve immediately.

This was sooo yummy! If anyone out there has a new recipe that you've tried and liked, please send it my way. I may start a recipe exchange group on facebook.

Hmmm...Can't Think of a Good Title

Found this video on a friend's profile and while I've heard this song a million times before (when it was ube popular years ago) it made me really stop and think. Time is WAY too short. We need to stop and evaluate what is really important in life. I am going to make an effort to start really enjoying the small (important) things in life, like watching me 2 monkeys dance up a storm whenever I put on music. And not getting so worked up over a hockey game:)

Which brings me to my next topic (awesome segue!!!). Our household has become fanatical about hockey. We were just watching/listening to Canucks games (the ONLY team that matters!) but have started watching all the western conference games to see where everyone is at in the standings. We're keeping close tabs on the Flames because, quite frankly, I hate those guys and would love to see them go down in, well, flames. I was so excited to see the Canucks come back from a HORRIBLE road trip (4 losses, ikes) to just slaughter the Flames. We cheered so load last night! I only hope they can keep up the great play so they make it into the playoffs.

Oh and a little note for Joanne. I originally told you that that song Smile a Little Smile For Me, Rosemarie was not an inspiration for Miss Rosie's name. I was appearantly mistaken. Paul never told me but that song was a big part of his choosing her name. I don't know why he never bothered to tell me but whatever. Men are just weird.

Rypien vs Carcillo (and bonus vid)

This is dedicated to Tami, who is on the road with her parents and misses alot of games. Go Rypien!

I think Tami will appreciate that 2nd video...that was an AWESOME game!

Rosie

Wow, my little girl is growing up super fast. She is now doing chores (she has 2...tidy up the living room before bed and help unload the dishwasher). As such Meio and I have decided to give her a small allowance every week. I'm going to go go buy her a piggy bank from Ikea next week. Tomorrow Rosie gets to go to her first "theater" movie, Horton Hears a Who. Meio is taking her so it should be a fun daddy/daughter experience. We've been getting her excited for the last week, showing her the trailer over and over on the computer (she keeps asking to watch it). I can't believe Miss Rosie is getting so big.

Valentine's Day.....Bleh!

I hate this stupid "holiday". No apologies to everyone who love doing cutsie whatever on this day. I love Paul, I don't need a special day set out where I feel pressured to do something special for him (and he shouldn't feel pressured to do anything for me, not that he will). This is just another way for men to get spoiled by their significant others while they conveniently forget to return the favour. Well I say screw it, I'm just not gonna bother this year (although once I get in the grocery store today I'll probably feel guilted into buying at least a card).

A Smashing Success

Here are some pics from Ryan's first birthday party, which was awesome despite the fact that his big sister had not only smashed her face 2 days ago but started throwing up and feeling like crap all day today. Thank you Shayne, Denise, Robert, Abbi and Matthew for coming to join in the fun. Ryan loves his new bowl and sippy cup and has carried around his hammer all evening.
As for Rosie I am taking her into urgent care tomorrow just to make sure there is no fractures in her cheeks or anything. When I mentioned that she broke her nose it really is not as bad as it sounds as her bones aren't as solid as an adults. They're still fairly flexible. However the swelling kind of concerns me so I'll take her in tomorrow. Hopefully it's not too bad.

A Successful Vacation

I was not sure how traveling with 2 little munchkins was going to go but they were both super awesome on our vacation to the Okanagan. Rosie even started learning to skate while we were there. Here is a vid of her at the Oliver arena.

Everyone had loads of fun (thanks to all those who put up with us). We all got Canucks gear while in BC (the Flames suck!). I totally miss the Okanagan and hope very much to be able to move back very soon (but am willing to wait til Meio can get a posting at one of the Kal-Tires out there as a manager...big $). I miss everyone and will try to come out with the kids in the summer (this time for a whole week with Barry and Lisa).

Gotta Do Everything Bass Ackwards

So I say screw being normal, I'm in full winter cleaning mode (that way I have more time for better things in the spring). We cleaned out Rosie's room and I am in the process of trying to get rid of a whole whack of toys and clothes. When we get back from vacation I will be diligently looking for inexpensive furniture for every room in the house, organize the laundry room and throw out everything we don't use. I am sick of this clutter. Today is clean the oven day...it's starting to look like we're going to have to get take out for dinner as I have to let the spray sit in the oven for a few hours (I bought the gentler oven cleaner-still has an unpleasant odor but not harsh, it wont hurt the kids).
I have started the "I'm so excited, I can barely sit still" phase of waiting to go on our trip to the okanagan. I REALLY can't stand this city and am looking forward to going back to somewhere with a slower pace (even if it is only for a little while). One more week to go!
On a different note, I cannot believe how fast time has gone since we moved here. Ryan will be a year old next month (what the hell? it's like we're in fast forward or something). And right after we get back from holidays I have to go register Rosie for preschool. Man that just blows my mind, she's grown up so quickly. I need a pause button for my life.
